Description


Trees, shrubs or climbers, stem and branches glabrous, strigose or tomentose. Leaves exstipulate, simple, alternate, entire or toothed, glabrous or hairy. Flowers in axillary cymes or panicles, solitary or few to many, bisexual or unisexual. Sepals 5, free or shortly connate at the base. Petals 5, free or shortly connate at the base. Stamens usually numerous or sometimes as few as 10, anthers 2-celled, versatile, inverted, opening by apical pores or short slits. Ovary 5 to many locular, ovules 1 to many in each locule, style distinct or connate below or throughout, stigma simple. Fruit a berry or capsule. Seeds albuminous.
