Climbing herbs with abundant milky juice. Leaves alternate, petiolate, cordate, entire or lobed, exstipulate, leaf blade palmately-veined, membranous. Inflorescence axillary cymes, branched, more or less scorpioid, elongate. Flowers ebracteate, very small, perfect or unisexual, polygamous, 5-merous, hypogynous, regular. Calyx 5-lobed, imbricate. Corolla 5-lobed, imbricate, shortly sympetalous. Stamens 5, epipetalous, alternate with its lobes, anthers dehiscing or opening by longitudinal slits. Gynoecium 2 carpels, united, ovary superior, 2 distinct dissimilar styles, one elongate and persistent in fruits, other very short with capitate stigma. Fruit a 2-winged samara, dry, flat, 2-seeded.
