Description


Herbs or shrubs, usually climbing by tendrils. Leaves simple or compound, alternate, entire or lobed, petioles often glandular, stipules 2, usually persistent. Flowers axillary, solitary, racemose or corymbose-paniculate, bisexual or unisexual, regular. Sepals 4-5 (-6), free or partially connate, often persistent. Petals (3-) 4-5 (-6), free or connate. Corona in one or more series of thread-like filaments or scales or annular. Stamens (4) 5 to numerous. Ovary superior, on a gynophores or subsessile, 1-locular, styles 1 or 3, free or partially connate. Fruit berry or loculicidally 3-5 valved capsule.
