Description


Trees or shrubs. Leaves alternate, exstipulate, simple rarely trifoliolate, often drying yellowish. Inflorescence axillary or terminal racemes or flowers solitary. Flowers bisexual, hypogynous, irregular. Sepals 5, imbricate, inner 2 little longer than outer 3. Petals 4-5, imbricate, unequal, lowest one keeled, boat-shaped, upper 2 recurved in upper half. Stamens 8, filaments pubescent below, distinct or sometimes adnate to petals. Disc hypogynous, annular. Ovary unilocular, stigmas capitate, bilobed, ovules parietal, 4-18, in 2-seriate. Fruit a globose, indehiscent drupe, fleshy when fresh, woody and coriaceous on drying, 1-seeded. Seeds globose or subglobose.
