trifoliolate with sheathing petioles. Flowers solitary or in racemes, branched
cymes or in dense heads or clusters, unisexual or bisexual, hypogynous,
regular. Sepals 5 or 4, connate at the base, persistent. Petals 5 or 4, yellow,
white or pink. Stamens 5 or 4, connate to the base of the corolla tube,
alternate with the corolla lobes. Carpels 2, syncarpous, ovary superior. Fruit
a capsule, dehiscent or indehiscent.
