Genus of this Family


Rush-like fern-allies. Generally, perennials. Rhizome long creeping. Stem arial, erect, radially symmetrical, green, with nodes and internodes with many branches. Sterile stems green, fertile stem yellowish green. Vascular tissue borne adjacent to the carinal canals, endodermis forming a continuous ring or separate rings around each vascular bundle. A series of ridges and valleys traverse the internodes and continue up to the nodal sheaths alternating in successive internodes. Nodes with a sheath bearing either persistent or deciduous teeth. Leaves arise from one internode, altrnate in position. Strobilous terminal on the main stem or at the end of the branches. Sporangia unilocular. Spores spherical, green, homosporous.
