Description


Terrestrial or epiphytic, moss-like fern-allies about 25-60 cm long and about 3-5 cm wide. Rhizome erect.  Vascular bundles actinostelic or plectostelic. True stipe not present and not visible, small crowded fronds cover all over the stipe.  Fronds less developed, and spirally arranged, vegetative or reproductive fronds similar or dis-similar, forming definite or indefinite strobili. Sometimes fronds gradually decreasing towards the apex. Vegetative fronds flat, or subulate, spirally arrangeed. Sporophylls sometimes small and different from vegetative fronds. Sporangia either attached to the spike or at the axils of sporophylls compactly arranged. Sporangia stalked or sessile. Spore reniform, ovate to triangular.
