Description


Perennial, caulescent or aculescent creeping to erect herbs with solitary stem. Leaves simple with sheathing petioles, leathery or membranous, margin ciliate to spinose. Umbels simple, globose to cylindric heads, heads solitary or in cymes, sometimes racemes. Bracts 1 to several, subtending the head. Bracteoles 1-many, subtending individual flower. Flowers sessile, bisexual. Calyx teeth ovate to lanceolate, persistent. Petals ovate to oblong, with incurved apex, white or purple. Stylopodium absent. Fruits globose to ellipsoid, covered with scales or tubercles, ribs obsolete. Seed face palne or slightly concave, carpophores absent.
