Description


Annual or perennial herbs. Leaves simples, opposite, stipules small. Inflorescence terminal and axillary cymes, long peduncle, 2 or more banched. Flowers small, sessile or very short pedicelled, 5-merous. Calyx lobes parted almost to base. Corolla campanulate, 5-lobed. Stamens 5, adnate to base of the corolla tube. Filaments as long as anthers. Carpels 2, united into 2-celled ovary, many ovules per locule, styles short, stigmas capitate. Fruits 2-horned or 2-lobed loculicidal capsules, both carpels dehiscing along ventral suture. Seeds minute, subglobose to ellipsoid, smoth or reticulate.
