Description


Usually trees, with stellately tomentose branches. Leaves simple, opposite-decussate or ternate, broadly elliptic, subsessile or not. Inflorescence large, terminal, dichotomously branched panicles. Calyx campanulate, 5-7 lobed, much enlarged or inflated in fruits, persistent. Corolla hypocrateriform, white or blue, with short, cylindrical tube, straight to reflexed, 5-7 lobed. Stamens 5-6, exserted, equal, inserted. Ovary 2-carpellate, 4-loculed, with one ovule in each locule. Fruits drupaceous, rounded, obscurely 4-lobed, completely enclosed by the enlarged calyx. Seeds erect, oblong, exalbuminous.
