Description


Trees or shrubs, rarely climbers. Stipules band-shaped and mucronate or triangular. Inflorescence pseudo-axillary, appearing leaf-opposed or from a leafless node. Flowers (4-) 5-(-7) merous. Calyx cupulate. Corolla tube usually hairy at the throat, lobes usually reflexed. Anthers usually reflexed, ridged (or locellate). Ovary 2-locular, ovules numerous, stigmas clavate. Fruits globose. Seeds covered with pulpy matrix.
