Description


Herbs or subshrubs. Leaves cauline or subradical, entire, sinuate, crenulate or toothed. Inflorescence usually axillary cyme or terminal panicle. Flowers subsessile, bisexual, zygomorphic. Bracts and bracteoles small. Sepals 5, equal, linear-lanceolate, connate below. Petals 5, connate, 2-lipped, lobes suequal, yube narrow. Stamens 2, filaments usually hairy, anther cells 2, subequal. Carpels 2, syncarpous, ovary 2-celled, ovules many in each cell, style slender, stigma subentire. Capsules linear, pubescent or glabrous. Seeds ovoid, compressed, hirsute, retinacula acute.
