Description


Herbs. Leaves entire, usually and prominently lineolate. Flowers in dense terminal or axillary, bracteate 1-sided spikes. Bracts usually in 2-4 rows, 2 of the rows barren, usually with scarious hyaline margin, bracteoles similar to the bracts or narrow. Calyx 5-partite. Corolla 2-lipped. Stamens 2, anther 2-celled, ovules 2 in each cell, styel filiform, stigma minutely bifid. Capsule ovoid or oblong, placentas and retinacula elastically separating from the base after dehiscence. Seeds 4, compressed, orbicular.
