Description
Annual
or biennial herbs, with white latex. Stem erect, solitary or branched from the
base, glabrous. Leaves usually all radical, rarely cauline, petioled or
sessile, linear or linear-lanceolate, sagittate, acute or obtuse, entire or
sinuate-toothed. Inflorescence usually subumbellate corymb, erect, cylindric.
Involucral bracts in 2-3 series, equal or unequal, outer very minute, ovate or
obovate, inner linear-oblanceolate. Florets all ligulate, ligule 5-toothed.
Corolla usually bright yellow. Stamens 5, anthers pinkish or yellow,
syngenesious. Style slender, stigma bifid. Achene usually elliptic-lanceolate
or somewhat rounded and angular, pale brown or dark brown. Pappus simple or
white.
