Description


Large shrubs or small trees. Flowers solitary or fascicled, axillary or extra axillary, on a slightly woody peduncle, with basal bracts. Sepals ovate or suborbicular, pubescent. Petals valvate, outer fleshy, glabrous or tomentose, hooded or flat, inner petals smaller than the outer ones, clawed, cohering as a cup over stamens and pistils. Anthers concealed by the overlapping connectives. Pistils hairy, ovules 1-4, basal, stigma simple or 2-fid. Ripe carpels subsessile, clustered, 1-4 seeded.
