Description


 Tuberous herbs, small to massive, flowering before leafing. Leaves solitary, 3-partite, segments pinnatisect.  Flowers monoecious, spathe with limb open or convolute, infundibular, or campanulate,  spadix exserted or included, appendage large, inflorescence cylindric, dense-flowered, sessile or shortly stipitate, males and females contiguous, neuters absent. Stamens 2-4, anthers sessile, cells oblong, pores apical. Ovaries globose or obovoid, 1-4 celled, style short or long, stigma entire, or 2-4 lobed, ovules solitary, subbasilar, anatropous. Fruits subglobose or obovoid berries, ripening orange-red. Seeds 1-few, exalbuminous.
