Description


Aquatic, floating, gregarious, stemless, stoloniferous herbs, with spreading feathery roots. Leaves sessile, obovate-cuneate, severel in rosette. Inflorescence solitary, very small. Spathe small, shortly peduncled, tubular below, open above. Spadix adnate to back of spathe-tube, free above. Male zone : stamens few, beneath spadix-apex, slits vertical. Neuters : minute, connate in a ring below the males. Female zone : ovary conico-ovoid, 1-celled, style conical,  stigma discoid, ovules numerous, basal or subparietal, orthotropous. Fruit berry, membranous, few-seeded. Seeds few, oblong or obovoid, testa rugose.
