free, filaments usually distinct, thecae opposite. Female flowers: ovary
subglobose, 1-loculed, ovule solitary, subbasilar, anatropous, stigma
disciform. Fruit an ellipsoid berry, red when ripe. Seeds solitary, ellipsoid.
