expanded. Spadix shorter than spathe. Female zone adnate to spathe. Flowers
unisexual, perigone absent. Staminate flowers with 4-5 stamens, connate into
synandrium. Sterile male flowers flattened. Pistillate flowers lax, ovary
subglobose to ovoid, 1-3 locular, ovule 1 per locule, stigma massive. Fruit a
berry, 1-3 seeded. Seed globose to ovoid.
