Description


Herbs. Stem creeping below, branches erect. Leaves oblong to linear-lanceolate. Cymes terminal, formed of large imbricate, second, foliaceous, more or less falcate bracteoles. Sepals subequal. Petal subequal with orbicular limbs. Stamens 6, all fertile, filaments usually bearded, often bearded towards the apex. Ovary 3-celled, ovules collateral, 2 in each cell, one erect, the other pendulous. Fruit a 3-celled loculicidal capsule. Seeds usually 2 in each cell, cubical or pyramidal, usually rugose.
