Description


Herbs with a short, stout caudex. Leaves ovate, peltate, long-petioled. Inflorescence solitary, peduncle shorter than petiole. Spathe convolute at base, limb ovate-lanceolate, reflexed, marcescent. Spadix short, dense-flowered, male zone clavate or capitate, female zone cylindric, adnate below to spathe. Flowers unisexual, perigone absent. Male flowers : stamens 3-6, connate, synandrium strongly lobed, anther-cells globose, dehiscence porous, apical. Female flowers : ovaries sub-globose, mixed with clavate staminodes, 1-locular, ovules many, orthotropous, parietal, stigma 4-5 lobed. Fruit many-seeded berry. Seeds ovoid to ellipsoid.
