Description


Trees or shrubs with milky latex, monoecious or dioecious. Leaves stipulate, alternate, distichous, shortly petiolate, lamina oblong-elliptic to lanceolate, entire or denticulate. Inflorescence axillary, unisexual or bisexual, cymose, racemose, spicate or capitate, or the female flower solitary. Male flowers with 3-5 calyx lobes, free or basally adnate with pistillode, filaments inflexed in bud, anthers reniform. Female flowers with 4 calyx lobes, free or connate, ovary superior, ovoid to oblique, thick and fleshy, styles bifid. Drupe globose, dehiscent or indehiscent, sometimes covered with persistent calyx. Seeds large, globose, covered by membranous endocarp.
