Description


Densely clumped. Culms erect, lower parts always unbranched. Branch bud ovate, keeled. Culm sheaths usually dark, densely hairy or occasionally scattered and loosely appressed hairs on outside, auricles firm and mostly low. Pseudospikelets 2-5 flowered, terminating in a long narrow empty lemma. Paleas thin, translucent with 2 well developed fringed keels. Lodicules mostly absent, if present 3 in number. Stamens 6, filaments joined to form a firm tube. Ovary with hairy tip, style long, ending in a single hairy stigma. Caryopsis, cylindric, hairy on thsoce top.
