Description


Perennial, rambling grasses. Leaf-blades linear-lanceolate, often pseudo-petiolate. Inflorescence a solitary raceme, tightly embraced by spatheole, raceme comprising 1 sessile and 2 pedicelled spikelets, pedicels forming together with its lower glume a triangular box around  the sessile floret. Sessile spikelet bisexual, laterally compressed, callus swollen, lower glume coriaceous,  2-toothed, upper glume convex, awnless, lower floret staminate, upper lemma  2-lobed, awn 4-12 mm long, sometimes awnless. Pedicelled spikelet awnless, unequal, one male or bisexual, as large as sessile, other rudimentary.
