Description


Diffuse, prostrate herbs, rarely undershrubs. Leaves petiolate, dilated and sheathing at the base, connate, subopposite, lamina obovate, ovate or oblong-linear, entire. Flowers axillary, sessile or pedicellate, solitary, glomerate or fascicled. Perianth gamophyllous, segments 5, light pink. Stamens 5-many, alternating with the perianth segments, free or in groups. Ovary superior, 1-2 celled, styles 1-2, longitudinally stigmatose. Capsule terete or turbinate, 1-2 celled, operculate. Seeds 2-4, long-funicled, globose-reniform.
