Description


Large, perennial climbers. Leaves simple, alternate, cordate or deltoid, petioles stem-clasping. Inflorescence a terminal or subterminal raceme, the rachis often ending in a tendril. Flowers pedicellate, bracteate, bisexual. Tepals 5, petaloid, persistent. Stamens 8, filaments filiform, connate below in a short cup. Carpels 3, ovary trigonous, styles 3. Fruits sub-globose, enclosed in papery perianth segments.
