wings as the fruit ripens. Petals united at the base and falling in a unit.
Stamens 10 or 15 in 1-3 whorls, falling with the petals, appendages of anthers
as long as or longer than the anthers, connective prolonged into a long awn.
Ovary ovoid with or without a distinct stylopodium. Fruit a nut, surrounded by
the bases of accrescent calyx lobes, two of which are enlarged into spathulate
or linear wings.
