Description


Tall palms, stems solitary or clustering, naked or sheathed. Leaves bipinnate, dimidiately flabelliform, apex obliquely and irregularly toothed, petioles swollen at base. Inflorescence a spadix, interfoliar, branches fastigiate, spathes 3-5, tubular. Flowers monoecious, solitary or male, or in triads with the central female. Male flowers symmetrical, sepals 3, imbricate, petals 3, valvate, stamens many. Female flowers subglobose, sepals 3, imbricate, petals 3, valvate. Carpels 3, connate, ovary 3-celled, ovules erect, stigma sessile, 3-lobed. Fruit 1-2 seeded. Seeds with ruminate albumen, embryo dorsal.
