Erect, rigid herbs with creeping rootstock, glabrous or minutely hairy, roots fibrous. Stems angular, sparingly branched. Leaves sessile, distichous, linear-oblong, pinnately 3-5 nerved. Inflorescence axillary, subracemose, peduncle filiform, rigid, close to the leaf-midrib, flowers clustered, very minute, pedicelled, greenish, bracts setaceous. Perianth campanulate, 4-fid, lobes subequal, ovate, valvate. Stamens 4, united to the base of the lobes, anthers short, diverging. Ovary half inferior, apex convex, ovules pendulous, numerous.
