Description


Climbing or scandent shrubs. Leaves decussate, simple, coriaceous, glabrous, glossy above, stipules interpetiolar. Flowers in axillary cymes, bisexual, 5-merous. Sepals 5, imbricate, persistent. Petals 5, subcoriaceous or coriaceous when dry. Disk prominent, simple. Stamens 3, attached to ovary, anthers extrorse. Ovary superior or partially embedded, 3-celled, ovules 2-12 in each cell, styles distinct, stigmas obscure. Fruits capsular, consisting of 3 separate, divergent, dorsiventrally flattened follicles. Seeds with a basal wing.
