Description


Shrubs or small trees, bark grey, glabrous. Leaves simple, opposite, petiolate, entire, with prominent intra-marginal nerves. Flowers axillary, large, usually 1-3 flowered, white. Hypanthium campanulate or urceolate. Calyx lobes 4 or 5, unequal. Petals 4 or 5, white. Stamens many, in many whorls, free. Ovary inferior, adnate to hypanthium, 4 or 5-loculed or more, ovules numerous, styles filiform, stigma capitate. Berry fleshy, globose to pyriform, many-seeded, apex with persistent calyx lobes.
