Description


Diffuse shrubs with drooping branches. Leaves opposite, elliptic or ovate, entire; petioles short. Inflorescence in dense racemes, axillary and crowded towards ends of branches, forming large panicles. Flowers small, greenish, each with a lanceolate bract. Sepals 5, connate in a 5-striate calyx tube, produced above the ovary, much enlarged in fruits. Petal absent. Stamens 10, 5 opposite the calyx lobes, others inserted between calyx lobes. Ovary 1-celled, inferior, ovules 3, pendulous, style subulate, simple. Fruits narrow, ovoid, 5-ribbed, villous, 1-seeded, surrounded the larger calyx.
