Description


Trees, covered with lepidote or stellate hairs. Leaves alternate, entire, 3-5 nerved. Inflorescence paniculate, terminal or axillary.Flowers numerous, hermaphrodite. Sepals united near the base, bell-shaped, irregularly 3-5 fid, hairy outside, glabrous inside. Petals 5, free, glabrous. Stamens numerous, free or often in 5 bundles, anthers basifixed, subglobose, staminodes 5. Ovary 5-locular, each locule 2-ovuled, styles subulate, stigmas pointed. Fruit a capsule, wingless, 2-lobed, 1-seeded. Seeds non-endospermous, cotyledons thick, fleshy.
