Description


Climbers or scandent shrubs. Leaves simple, alternate, entire or lobed. Flowers bisexual, minute, in axillary or terminal umbellate cymes. Sepals 5, free or connate at the base. Petals 5, hooded, with a concave claw, appendages 2-fid. Stamens 5, free above, opposite the petals, staminodes 5, opposite the sepals, anthers 2-3 locular, extrorse. Ovary sessile, 5-locular, each locule with 2 ovules, styles 5-lobed. Fruit a globose capsule, more or less echinate, septicidally 5-valved. Seeds wingless, solitary.
