Description


Herbs, undershrubs or shrubs, rarely small trees. Leaves simple or lobed, ovate, usually cordate. Flowers axillary, solitary or in terminal racemes. Epicalyx absent. Calyx campanulate, 5-lobed. Corolla campanulate, yellow, orange-yellow or white. Staminal column shorter than the petal, with many antheriferous filaments. Ovary with 5-40 locules, style 1, branched at the apex, branches as many as carpels. Fruit a schizocarp, mericarps reniform, dehiscent. Seeds 2-9 per mericarp, reniform.
