Description


Subshrubs or shrubs. Leaves alternate, entire or crenate-serrate, stipules minute, caducous. Flowers large, yellow to white, solitary, axillary or terminal cymose or in short fascicle, pedicellate, bracteate. Sepals 5, imbricate, entire, lanceolate, acuminate. Petals 5, twisted, larger than sepals, fugacious. Stamens 5, connate at base, alternating with subulate staminodes, glands 2-3, adnate to staminal ring. Ovary 3-5 locular, each locule 2-celled with single ovule in each cell, styles 3-4, rarely more, free or connate below, stigmas capitate to subcapitate. Fruit a globose capsule, splitting into 6-8 cocci or valves. Seeds reniform.
