Description


Perennial climbers, becoming woody at base with age, sacandant. Leaves 3-7 angular, palmately lobed, cordate. Tendrils simple. Flowers small, monoecious, male and female together in axillary clusters. Male flowers: short-pedunculate, calyx campanulate, lobes 5, subulate, corolla rotate, 5-lobed, stamens 3, free, inserted at calyx tube, two 2-locular, another one 1-locular. Female flowers: subsessile, calyx and corolla as in male, ovary ovoid or ellipsoid, stigma 2-3 lobed. Fruits globose or ellipsoid, indehiscent. Seeds ovoid, subcompressed, marginate, scabrous.
