Description


Shrubs or small trees, dioecious. Leaves simple, glabrous or hairy, base symmetrical, long decurrent into petiole. Inflorescences axillary or terminal. Flowers bisexual or unisexual, regular. Sepals (3) 4 or 5, free, valvate, slightly imbricate, equal, spreading in male flowers, erect to reflexed in female and bisexual flowers, entire, glabrous to sparsely hairy outside, margin tomentose-ciliate, glabrous to densely hairy inside. Petals absent. Stamens 5-15. Ovary densely glandular, 2-4-locular. Fruit a winged septifragal capsule, smooth, glabrous or hairy, sparsely glandular, glabrous inside. Seeds subglobular, 2.0-2.5 mm diameter, smooth, black.
