Trees or shrubs, with resinous mucilage or balsaminous juice. Leaves pinnately compound, alternate, uni or bipinnate, leaflets unequal at base, tip of leaflets distinctly mucronulate. Flowers bisexual or unisexual or polygamous in short panicles. Sepals 4-6, toothed or partite, united at base. Petals 3-6, spreading or reflexed, valvate, longer than sepals. Stamens 6-12, inserted at base of annular disc, anthers oblong-ovate. Ovary ovoid to subglobose, 3 to 5-locular, ovules 2 in each locule, style short or absent, stigmas 3 to 5-lobed, obtuse. Fruits globose to ovoid, often 2-3 furrowed drupe, 1-3 seeded. Seeds membranous testa.
