Description


Deciduous trees with red aromatic wood. Leaves pinnate, leaflets opposite, subopposite or alternate, stipule absent. Inflorescence terminal or subterminal panicles or cymes. Flowers dimorphic, white or pale yellow. Calyx 5-lobed. Petals 5, usually keeled inside at the base. Disk 4-6 lobed. Stamens usually 4-6, inserted on the top of the disk, sometimes reduced to staminodes in the female flowers. Ovary 5-celled, ovules 8-12 in each cell, pendulous. Capsule septifragally 5-valved. Seeds compressed, winged.
