Description


Shrubs or small trees. Leaves alternate or subopposite, obovate to obovate-oblong, entire, gland-dotted. Inflorescence terminal, leaf-opposed or rarely axillary umbels or panicles, usually subsessile or sessile. Flowers ebracteate, bisexual, 5-merous, usually white, fragrant. Calyx lobes 5, persistent. Corolla deeply 5-lobed, lobes ovate or ovate-lanceolate. Stamens 5, basal part of filaments united into a tube as long as corolla tube, distal part free, exserted, anthers 2-celled. Ovary superior, fusiform or oblong, 1-celled with many ovules, glabrous, styles terminal, elongated, stigma apiculate. Fruit a capsule, elongated, base compactly enclosing by the persistent calyx, curved, 1-seeded. Seeds oblong, exalbuminous, viviparous.
