Erect, clumping herb, somewhat robust, stem up to 1 m tall, branched at base. Leaves many together, broadly ovate-cordate, acute, base shallowly cordate, apex acute, primary nerves 4 on each side, radiating from petiole, petioles up to 75 cm long, sheath reaching to c half way, margins membranous. Inflorescence usually solitary, sometimes paired, axillary. Peduncle 20-30 cm long. Spathe 9-15 cm long, limb narrowly cymbiform, margins convolute. Spadix 8-14 cm long, female zone cylindric, 1.5-2.5 cm long, sterile zone 2-3 cm long, male zone yellow, c 3.4 cm long, appendix narrowly conic, yellowish. Fruit a subglobose berry, 1-seeded, ripening red. Flowering and fruiting: May-July. Ecology : Wet fields, moist shady places in forests.
